The Sumer Culture - Wednesday 20090429

Continuing the series on "The Development of the Idea of God in Human History", this week Stan looked at the Sumerian culture and the wealth of information they bring to the history of man's concept of God in early civilizations.

Stan also mentioned the author Wilhelm Schmidt and his book The Origin and Growth of Religion: Facts and Theories

GP Wednesday Class - 20090422

Last week's lesson on the Pre-Abramic idea of God is up. Please note that the audio quality is poor, and we anticipate the recording quality improving quickly over the coming weeks - thanks for bearing with us.

Just to let you know what we are working towards, soon we will have the network finished in the Worship Center which will allow us to have internet access. Once that happens, posting the audio podcast will happen Wednesday evening immediately after class. Internet access will also allow us to display various helpful websites live during class. One such website that we will be using is http://www.biblemap.org, a fantastic Bible search engine mashed together with Google Maps.

The Concept, The Introduction

Wednesday nights at GracePointe Church are primarily focused on in-depth spiritual formation studies.

This blog will service as a resource center to provide you with the materials that are suggested for further study. Check back weekly, or subscribe to this blog to get the updates as they are posted. There will also be an audio podcast available each week. Stay tuned for the address.

Our format for the class will be lecture followed by question and response.  We will begin promptly at 6:30 and end promptly at 7:30, with great classes offered for our children and youth, birth through senior high.

For our first study, The Development of the Idea of God in Human History, it won't be necessary to buy a text-book.  If you do desire, though, to do extra work outside of the class, I would suggest the book, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Exploring God  I know the title is odd but the book is put together very well.
